What you will learn

Welcome to the course: Preparing to Parent!

We are excited to have you join us as you embark on the exciting and sometimes journey as a new parent.

Have you ever wondered why it is harder to get a drivers license than become a parent? Do you know how best to parent your child to develop a secure and positive attachment?

This course will develop your knowledge of three foundational skills you need as a parent. They are

  • Developing a parenting identify which serves as a philosophy behind your parenting approach and how you will begin to make decisions about the welfare of your child.
  • Adopting a growth mindset to enable you the adapt and respond flexibly to the opportunities and challenges that the parenting role may present
  • Managing the times of worry and anxiety by developing your resilience and capacity to overcome the biological urges triggered from our brains 'safety-default'

Is this course right for me?

This course is designed for parents in the third and final trimester of pregnancy, however new parents or even just curious parents of young children (0-4yrs) are also welcome to attend. Just be aware that many of the case examples come from early parenting experiences. However, the strategies taught during the course can be applied across the parenting journey!

What are your fears or concerns about parenting?

You will be meeting with fellow parents who are also attending the course. If you are comfortable you can share any fears and concerns you have about becoming a parent. We can then support you with managing these concerns during the classroom.
